Interior Specialist · Chicago's North Shore & North Side

Helping homeowners make informed decisions before the renovations begin.

I work for you - the homeowner - to advise and assist you with your apartment and house renovation projects across Chicago's North Side and North Shore, including Evanston, Wilmette, Winnetka, and Glencoe. After 18+ years in construction, I transitioned my business to protect customers from poor workmanship and over priced renovations. My goal is to provide peace of mind and help navigate one of life’s more aggravating experiences. From simple kitchen or bath renovations to an entire home, I approach every project with a commitment to do what’s in the best interest of the customer, not the contractor.

Work

A selection of kitchen, bath and interior renovation projects.

Process

Renovations can be a nightmare. Marriages have shattered because of never ending work, disrupted lives, and blown budgets. My role is to help prepare you before the renovations begin and to help prevent issues before they start.

Pre-Construction

A detailed walk-through and evaluation including visually reviewing the electrical service, plumbing, and general conditions is $175.

Construction

Assist with vendors (i.e., negotiate contracts, payments-terms, insurance, etc.) however I maintain an ‘arm’s length’ relationship. If an issue arises I can review and quickly find a solution. Construction fees are $150 per hour.

Post-Construction

Conduct a thorough walk through and punch list for your GC, subs or vendors to help safeguard your investment.

Food for Thought

In a perfect world all three points are attainable. The reality, however, is when you try to save
on one corner it negatively impacts the remaining two corners.

Profile

My interest in homes started early in life; my mother worked for legendary North Shore builder C.A. Hemphill. I began renovating while attending high school and during summer, learned multiple skills, and was successful. Thereafter I studied interior design at Harrington and the Art Institute but could not align my real-world experience with the classroom.

The solution was to head to Wall Street. After several years my consulting practice grew to include architects and general contractors. Post 9/11 I traded my pin stripes for a tool belt and returned to doing what I love: renovation and design. My project work grew to converting shipping containers into cabins, upgrading warehouses, retail sites, and multi-family housing in MA, NH, CT, RI, CA, OR, and TX.

After 18+ years in the field, I transitioned from builder/designer to owner’s rep to continue doing what I most enjoy: problem solving, being creative, and helping people. I strive to create spaces that bring together thoughtful and efficient design not only in principle, but in practice. Every space has the potential to be extraordinary - sometimes the simplest changes have enormous impact.
